As was announced in a recent edition of Mercy e-News, all our Mercy Leaders and the MIA Board took a decision to invite Sisters of Mercy and our Partners- in- Mercy in the Jubilee Year of Mercy to participate in a worldwide reflection process so that we can discern together globally a shared response to the human and other than human cry for Mercy in our world today.

We wish to share with you here some practical steps we have put in place to support the process.

MIA Reflection Process

Tomorrow, 23rd July, we celebrate the 21st birthday of Mercy International Centre. It is traditional to mark 21st birthdays with a key; but what is a key without a door!  During the course of our 21st year, the Year of Mercy, the door of 64A, Lower Baggot Street will take on a special meaning. Pope Francis has used the symbolism of Opening the Door of Mercy’ as a way of urging us to discover anew the call of Mercy and the implications of that call for us today.

Without consciously knowing it, God the Potter has been moulding us for this special year....

Participants

All Sisters and Partners-in-Mercy are invited to be engaged in the International Reflection Process as our shared response to the call to plumb the depths of the 'great river of Mercy' in the year of an Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy.

Process

The model for this International reflection will be grounded in an action/reflection/action process. The process will move over and back from personal reflection to group reflection at local level, to interconnected reflection at the regional level to communal integration of the reflections at an international level.

Specific details of the what, how and where of this process will be published in e-News over the coming weeks.

In this preparation time we are each encouraged to read/explore/engage with the encyclical Laudato Si by way of readying our minds/hearts/selves for our shared undertaking.

Some resources to help us with that engagement are linked to this item. These, as well as further resources, will be made available on the Mercy International Reflection Process microsite on mercyworld.org which will be launched in Mercy eNews on Wednesday, 19 August. Suggestions for resources are welcome.

Messages to: Mercy International Reflection Process Team

We invite everyone to join with Pope Francis in offering his prayer for the earth, included at the conclusion of his encyclical. This will be our shared prayer throughout and until the conclusion of the reflection process.

'All-powerful God, you are present in the whole universe
and in the smallest of your creatures.
You embrace with your tenderness all that exists.
Pour out upon us the power of your love,
that we may protect life and beauty.
Fill us with peace, that we may live
as brothers and sisters, harming no one.
O God of the poor,
help us to rescue the abandoned and forgotten of this earth,
so precious in your eyes...'

The prayer in English and Spanish is linked to this item.
