Preparing for the Season of Creation

Editor: The Season of Creation (1 September - 4 October) was a significant period during the Mercy International Reflection Process (2016) where we heard 'the cry of Earth and the cry of the Poor' in a new way.

In light of our commitment to continue our engagement with processes flowing from the Mercy International Reflection Process (MIRP Review, p18), we are each invited to participate anew in this Season of Creation, using resources produced by MIA to help us to do so.

Invitation to Contribute to the Photo Meditation for the Season of Creation

Last year, for each of the 34 days of the Season of Creation we offered a daily visual meditation—a photograph of an aspect of the beauty of our world —on the homepage of our mercyworld.org website. This was so well received that we plan to do it again this year!

We invite our readers and members of the wider Mercy network who are keen photographers to send in an image you have taken with your SLR or smartphone camera to be shared in this way.

Requirements are simple. Images need to be landscape in shape, to be focussed and clear and to be uncompressed (ie taken at a large size and at least 1mb). JPEGS are preferred.

Please provide a caption identifying the location as this, along with your name, will accompany the photo.

Photos can be sent in at any time from today. Send images to Anne Walsh.

World Day of Prayer for Creation (ISMAPNG)

Last year’s September edition of Liturgy News (2016) featured a little article entitled “Creationtide” that briefly explained the origins of the World Day of Prayer for Creation and outlined the debate around the issues involved in introducing into the Catholic Church a season of creation. Some of that story bears repetition and even further explanation...

The Sisters of Mercy are inspired by the courageous and compassionate example of their founder, Catherine McAuley.  The Sisters of Mercy on Guam are involved in various ministries: education, pastoral work, prayer ministry, and social work.

'[D]ivine mercy both transforms us and renews our hope.  Our Lord, who rejects no one, graciously bestows upon us the mission to proclaim his mercy to the world.'
